Behind the Lens

Crafting the remarkable luxury of an approachable yet refined experience ... like the feeling of being barefoot, while wearing high heels.

I'm a straightforward romantic, with a Southerner's warm welcome, historian's worldview, and a penchant for nostalgia.

I adore beautiful things (guilty!), but measure my worth on the healthiness of my soul, and I am equally as proud of a well timed joke as I am of any of the many accolades I've collected. I am a woman of deep, restorative faith in God, who champions inclusion and equality.  I am a free spirit, spontaneous adventurer, and an enthusiastic wife and mother who works hard to cultivate the perfect balance between sophisticated and approachable. With a formal education as a professional Historian, and a long-standing career capturing legacies in front of my camera, I have come to see that photographing each wedding is my own mark on History. In another life, I would have loved to have been a comedian, or a therapist - but I like to think I incorporate both of those skills into my work as a photographer.

My mother-in-law's cooking. A close second would be my favorite sushi and truffle fries. For sweets there's nothing better than something coated in Huckleberry flavoring or caramel. (Cocktail hour? I'd love a good moscato while barefoot - with a view.)

IV. meal

My husband, Shawn (who is the reasonable to my picky), and our two sweet-yet-boisterous little girls, Ireland (6) and Sunday (3). They are the reason I have a special place in my heart for mothers on wedding days.

V. humans

Interior Design, audiobooks, needlepoint, picnics on riverbanks, reruns, crime documentaries, and impromptu trips to Disney World.

III. pastTime

Impractical footwear, red lipstick, fresh flowers, spontaneous trips to the ocean, original artwork, mixing patterns, the overuse of exclamation points, and expensive furniture.

II. guilty pleasure

Since we named our firstborn Ireland, I'd say that takes the cake as my favorite destination. I also love Banff, the California Redwoods, and the Grand Tetons. In Autumn there's no where I'd rather be than apple country in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I. places i've been

When clients let go and truly feel the day in front of my lens. There's a connection that comes from being with people in these moments that fills my soul.

VI. part of my job

my favorite things:

There is so much separating two people in the online world, and so I wanted to welcome you into my home to my dining room table, to get a little glimpse into who I am, and learn more about why I always say I'll be photographing weddings until I'm 80.

My clients trust in me as an artistic witness to their love, who will translate that with honesty and enthusiasm.

It's important to me that the clients I work with are warm and welcoming, so that I can take the front row view I get of their wedding day, and return it to them with the love and dedication it deserves.
